Health insurance coverage is a mandatory requirement for the academic and clinical portions of the curriculum. USC health insurance may be waived with proof of other current coverage.

Please note that the cost of tuition does not cover out-of-pocket expenses such as textbooks/e-books, course readers, surgical scrubs, incidental supplies and expenses associated with travel to and from campus. Each student is responsible for these purchases. Information on required and recommended textbooks and materials will be sent out before the start of classes along with the new student orientation schedule.

The Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy requires all incoming DPT students to purchase an Apple iPad and laptop (either Apple or PC) to be used throughout the academic and clinical experiences.

Admitted students are required to visit the USC Health Sciences Campus in Los Angeles, California for approximately 12 in-person immersion experiences over the course of the three-year program. Immersions range in length from four to eleven days each, amounting to approximately 90 days in total. Students are responsible for all travel expenses associated with the in-person immersions, including meals, lodging and parking. Standard hotel rates in Los Angeles can range from $150 to $300 per night plus taxes, though lodging prices in the area vary significantly.

Financial Aid

When evaluating how to pay for a master’s degree program, students often explore a number of different resources. Below, we’ve outlined some financing options for which you may be eligible to apply.

  • USC offers a limited number of competitive Divisional scholarships to second- and third-year students based on meritorious academic and clinical performance. All incoming students are considered for these awards, and there is no formal application process. In past years, 10 to 15 students have been awarded scholarships ranging from $5,000 to $10,000.

Please see additional information about scholarships for current and incoming students here. Please note that all scholarships may not apply to students enrolled in the hybrid pathway of the USC DPT program.

Additional financial aid resources include the American Physical Therapist Association (APTA) Financial Solutions Center

  • U.S. citizens and permanent residents are eligible to apply for federal financial aid. To apply for federal student aid, complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

The FAFSA code for University of Southern California is 001328.

Please note that U.S. government guidelines preclude international students from receiving federal financial aid through the USC Financial Aid Office. The U.S. government requires all international applicants to provide proof of ability to pay tuition and living expenses before a formal letter of admission or the forms required for obtaining a visa can be issued.

  • Many employers offer tuition benefits, including tuition reimbursement and low-cost loans. Check with your manager or human resources team regarding tuition assistance.

  • Veterans, service members, and qualified family members can access educational assistance through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

  • For additional financial assistance, research other education loan lenders to determine if a private loan is best for your situation.
